It was given its name due to the karst limestone structures that turn to marvelous chocolate brown color when Cogon grass (Imperata cylindrica) dries up during the dry season. This unique landform was mainly developed about 1 -5 Ma as a result of the uplift of extensive limestone deposits and the subsequent weathering processes in the area.
